Week 1:
This week we were introduced to our first unit of the MYP E-Portfolio course. Our unit is incorporating different materials as backgrounds for our canvas', essentially newspaper and how we can assimilate it in our piece. We were given a list of artists; Loui Jover, Sandrine Pelisser, Alfredo Ramos, Pau Thek. As I researched on every artist, I found Loui Jover's the most interesting as he incorporated newspaper in his canvas, sometimes relating to concept but not always. Loui utilized ink-washing for his effect, he mainly created female portraits with eye-catching eyes, making it somewhat realistic. The portraits have outstanding features such as the lips, eyes, nose, all shaded in detail, however Jover stayed away from shading other aspects of the piece therefore the newspaper would be visible for his audience. The eyes of the portrait make his pieces eye-catching as they have accents of color, using acrylic and watercolor, this made his female portraits the most iconic pieces as they were prominent and stood out. One of his pieces incorporates musical notes with an image of a ballerina dancing to the tune, this explaining a story in relation to the concept of Jover's, this is where I have drawn my attention to and am inspired from therefore I have concluded that I will have a meaningful story and create a concept off of that. On the first page of my sketchbook I chose to showcase my research on the artist, Loui Jover. I analysed the medias he uses in his work and presented a little bit of background information about him. As you can see below, I have stuck four images presenting Loui Jovers work and created a small inspired piece of his work (using oil paint, as I did not have any other media to incorporate in my work) on newspaper, to recreate the iconic female portrait, with bright, eye-catching eyes. After the completion of my research on Loui Jover I started focusing towards concepts, because for this unit we were given complete independence, control to do anything we liked, and were given no instruction other then the inspiration we were provided with in the beginning of the unit. This week I still hadn't developed my concept however I researched and focused on looking at significant figures who modified history, in a positive way.
Week 2:
Over the weekend I researched on ideas for my concept. I came across Marilyn Monroe, an American model and actress
My name is Dina Shah and I am in year 10. This is my arts process journal. For this year we had the choice to pick between one art for our E-Portfolio, which would me an on-going course for two years. These choices were; Visual Arts, Physical Arts, Theater Art, Musical Art, and Digital Design. I have always been more interested in Visual Arts as I can express myself the best and have full control of what I am doing whereas in other arts I cannot show my creativity as much. In arts, I have not created many pieces using a variety of medias such as oil/acrylic paint, ink-wash, therefore I would like to experiment using different types of media. Drawing and painting has always been something I've loved doing, therefore I have selected the Visual
Art MYP course. I look to improve and develop my skills in all features and
experiment with new media, or styles and to recreate specific styles of artists I haven't tried to do yet.
This blog will require documented evidence throughout my Visual Arts MYP Course. Here I will present my progress as an artist, through my knowledge, skills, and understanding. I will document all of my tasks, research, reflections, studies,
progress, and developments of my concept and any adjustments that will occur along the
process.
